Product design and branding for the intelligent Amphiro hot water consumption display
The innovative ETH spin-off Amphiro teamed up with Milani to develop a user-friendly shower water indicator that motivates people to save water on a daily basis. From naming and product design to packaging; the comprehensive brand experience around the amphiro a1 combines environmental responsibility with unrestricted usability.
Nudging towards smart water conservation
Can consumers smartly reduce hot water consumption while showering without sacrificing too much? The company and ETH spin-off Amphiro AG has developed a technology which sees its first application in the intelligent display amphiro a1. This shows the temperature of the water as well as water and energy consumption while the user is taking a shower. It encourages a conscious and efficient use of valuable water resources.
Enjoyable and environmentally responsible
Tests have shown that households reduce their consumption by an average of 6,400 liters of drinking and waste water per year with the amphiro a1. The annual savings potential per household of around 210 kWh of thermal energy is roughly equivalent to the annual energy consumption of a washing machine.
This is mainly down to the device’s intelligent design and user interface. Because the amphiro a1 is more than just a functional measuring tool. Unlike its competitors, the design of the amphiro a1 shower water display looks both simple and appealing. A small polar bear on the display playfully shows how much water is being consumed. The product design of the amphiro a1 brings together the enjoyment of daily showering and ecological accountability, without appearing over-informative.
Branding and packaging design
Working closely with Amphiro, Milani took care of aspects including naming, product design, user interface, and packaging design. The result is a cohesive brand experience that underscores the innovative character of the amphiro a1.
