Development of new products in the telemedicine sector

Bosch Healthcare Solutions develops and supplies medical technology products, including devices related to telemedicine and health monitoring. Over the course of several innovation sprints, Milani worked with Bosch Healthcare Solutions to develop a new family of devices for home health monitoring, bridging the gap between strict safety and hygiene guidelines for medical devices and ease of use for all users. The devices needed to be as easy to use as possible for healthcare professionals and especially for elderly patients. The idea was for peripheral devices, such as scales, blood pressure monitors and glucometers, to automatically communicate with each other and exchange data. 

Prototyping and usability testing to create user centered designs for older people

The guiding question was: can elderly patients, including those with physical and mental limitations, safely use digital devices? To answer this, Milani centered research on patients and their environments. As a result, Milani developed various product design and user interface concepts and tested them in the American target market using hardware and software prototypes. 

Milani’s user centered design (UCD) approach made it possible to identify strengths and weaknesses in the system context and to either validate or reject the various created design concepts. The findings also provided an excellent decision-making basis for the development of the new product family.
