Medical product & UX/UI design for the smart fertility tracker Daysy
Milani supported the Swiss company Valley Electronics in further developing the concept of the intelligent fertility tracker Daysy into an innovative, market-ready, and industrially manufacturable medical device. The focus was on refining the design, developing the UX/UI, and guiding the product through to series production.
Challenge: Finding the right balance between medical credibility and consumer appeal and bringing it to production
Valley Electronics AG is an internationally active medical technology company specializing in intelligent fertility solutions. With Daysy, the company set out to launch a FemTech product that empowers women to make informed decisions in tune with their bodies.
The challenge was to combine medical credibility with a clear, approachable consumer appeal while consistently advancing the concept to production readiness.
Milani’s approach: Integrating product design, UX, and implementation
Milani worked at the critical intersection of transforming an existing concept into a consistent, user-centered, and industrially feasible product.
The design language was carefully refined to balance medical trustworthiness with emotional accessibility, while also optimizing manufacturability. In parallel, Milani developed the UX/UI with a focus on intuitive, self-explanatory use. Clear visual feedback and reduced interactions help users quickly and confidently understand their data.
Result: A product that builds trust and succeeds in the market
Daysy combines technological precision, clear design, and intuitive usability. The fertility tracker enables women to monitor their individual cycle and identify fertile and non-fertile phases naturally, supporting informed, self-directed decisions in harmony with their bodies.
The design balances femininity and clarity. Because basal temperature is measured orally, the form and haptics subtly reference a spoon, while maintaining a soft and comfortable feel in the hand. Its friendly aesthetics and intuitive operation make Daysy a trusted daily companion.
The product’s design and functionality were recognized with the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019. The jury particularly praised the successful balance between a medical device and a lifestyle product, as well as its clear focus on ease of use.
