Research and medical product design for Eyestar 900 from Haag-Streit
Working closely with Haag-Streit, Milani has made the company’s revolutionary eye analyzing technology accessible and has tailored it to the needs of doctors, technicians and patients. The result is the Eyestar 900, which marks a new chapter for the company in the field of eye measurement, imaging and diagnostics.
Milani supported Haag-Streit in this process from the initial idea through to the innovative medical device's realization.
User-centric medical device design: from field research to application analysis and prototyping
Haag-Streit has developed a revolutionary eye analyzing technology that for the first time allows a patient's eyes to be scanned in three dimensions. It was Haag-Streit's vision to design an innovative and highly usable medical device based on their unique technology.
Milani developed the Eyestar 900 in close collaboration with Haag-Streit, tailoring the medical device to the needs of doctors, technicians and patients.
As part of field research, Milani conducted interviews with medical professionals and patients to understand existing needs in eye measurement, imaging and diagnosis, and to gather different perspectives on potential uses of the technology. Based on these insights, Milani worked with the Haag-Streit team to develop initial device prototypes, which were in turn tested and optimized in consultation with optometrists, ophthalmologists and hospitals.
The Eyestar 900 - innovative, user-friendly OCT design
The Eyestar 900 is a complete swept-source OCT-based eye analyzer. The fully automated and user-friendly measurement process enables the user to acquire precise measurement and swept-source OCT imaging data of both eyes in less than 40 seconds. The Eyestar 900 therefore frees up valuable time for ophthalmologists to focus on diagnosis and planning.
Through its innovative design the Eyestar 900 allows all patients to benefit from a comfortable user experience without any hindrance due to age, size or other factors. Its fully automated data acquisition process and fast measurement speed result in a high degree of patient comfort, which has a positive impact on measurement quality.
The device's small footprint make it a space saver that fits in any examination room.
