From newspaper printing to parcel logistics – a new application and industrial design for existing conveyor technology
When a market declines but the technology remains
Denipro AG specializes in customized conveyor systems. The company had an established conveyor technology originating from the newspaper printing industry. With the decline of the print sector, this application gradually lost relevance. The technology itself was mature, but the market was no longer viable. Parcel logistics was identified as the new target market, an environment with entirely different requirements.
The challenge was not to develop a new product, but to transfer the existing technology into a different industry and usage context within a short timeframe, and to clearly position the new product.
Targeted design adaptations for a new market
Milani recognized that in parcel logistics, efficiency, speed, and continuous material flow are key. At the same time, logistics centers were increasingly seen as visible parts of the company and were expected to perform as showcase environments. Based on this, Milani developed a design concept that clearly makes the performance and USP of the Denipro system visible.
The approach was deliberately pragmatic. Instead of developing a new solution, the existing system was adapted to the new context through simple, economically viable changes. Modifications to the existing production setup were kept to a minimum.
Continuous material flow made visible in the conveyor system
With DeniSort, Milani developed a conveyor system that clearly makes its performance visible. Milani defined continuous material flow across a single system as the key differentiating feature and consistently translated it into the design.
The red track and the red understructure of the carriers were deliberately used to make this advantage immediately visible. Milani designed the system so that its function and strengths can be understood at a glance.
At the same time, the conveyor system itself became part of the staging. In logistics centers that increasingly serve as showcase environments, it was visibly integrated into the space and shaped the perception of the entire facility.
The solution was implemented in logistics centers such as those of Zalando, where it is integrated into existing processes and reliably supports continuous material flow in operation.
