Medical Product Innovation & Service Concept for Compression Therapy
Patients and healthcare professionals today expect more than just a medical product. Modern solutions must not only be functional but also make everyday life easier for patients and support medical professionals in delivering effective care.
Together with Essity, one of the world’s leading companies in hygiene and health, Milani developed a comprehensive innovation solution around two new compression therapy product lines. In addition to product design, an integrated product and service ecosystem was created that addresses the needs of all relevant stakeholders, especially those of patients.
Needs Analysis and Co-Creation with Patients and Healthcare Professionals
At the heart of the project was a central question: how can the quality of life of patients with chronic conditions be improved through relevant products and supportive services? To answer this question, Milani first systematically analyzed the needs of all stakeholders involved. Through interviews, research, and workshops, the perspectives of patients, physicians, and medical professionals were explored.
These insights formed the foundation for new product and service concepts. The user-centered innovation process made it possible to connect medical requirements, patient needs, and real-world usage scenarios.
A key component of the project was the co-creation approach. Patients and a panel of leading medical experts were actively involved in the innovation process. Together with them, Milani developed, tested, and refined new solution concepts. This allowed ideas to be evaluated early in the development process and aligned closely with real market needs.
Designing an Integrated Product and Service Ecosystem
Together with Essity, Milani developed not only a new core product but also a comprehensive product and service ecosystem around compression therapy. The solutions combine medical products with supporting services that accompany patients in their daily lives and help healthcare professionals provide better care. Digital and analog offerings complement the product and create a holistic treatment experience.
By combining product and service innovation, an integrated solution was created that considers the entire treatment journey, from diagnosis and therapy to long-term patient support.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Innovation within the Company
Throughout the multi-month project, Milani worked closely with interdisciplinary and international teams at Essity. This intensive collaboration enabled medical expertise, market knowledge, and design capabilities to be combined from an early stage.
At the same time, the structured innovation process created strong internal engagement with the developed concepts. The close collaboration strengthened internal support for the innovation and facilitated the further development of the new solutions.
