NEW INTERIOR DESIGN FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF HYBRID BUSES

In addition to the trolley bus and the battery bus, VBZ's electric bus strategy focuses on the hybrid bus in order to reduce the number of pure diesel buses. Milani developed the interior design for the new bus generation for VBZ. The design language was to be based on the new tram generation called "Flexity".

The new interior is clear, elegant and modern. The color concept consists of urban and natural elements that reflect the unique mix of culture and nature that characterizes the city of Zurich. In addition, high-quality materials enhance the bus and ensure passenger comfort.

The seats are upholstered in hygienic eLeather, made from recycled leather waste. Smartphones, tablets and laptops can be powered via USB connections in the four-seater compartments.

SEATS MADE FROM RECYCLED INDUSTRIAL LEATHER WASTE

In early 2018, passengers had the opportunity to test different seating options in a hybrid bus. The majority of Zurich residents chose the eLeather upholstered seats over the upholstered and wooden seats. The material is made from recycled industrial leather scraps, similar to the "nose-to-tail" principle used in the food industry, where all parts of an animal between the nose and tail are used. Leather that would otherwise end up in the garbage. A special treatment makes the material durable and breathable, just like real leather. It is also easy to clean, which is extremely practical for seat covers in public transportation.
